Brief interruption: Requesting your input!
How many emails do you want to get from me a month?
Hi hi! 👋🏼 If you are subscribed to Paws and Reflect (either as a free or paid supporter), could you help me out with a quick poll?
When our blog was on WordPress (from 2021 to fall 2024) everything I wrote existed only on the website—I never sent any emails to announce new posts.
I wanted to mostly stick to that spirit when we moved to Substack, so I’ve been sending a single monthly recap instead of individual emails for each post (the latter is the Substack default).
I’m feeling a little torn on this as time goes on. I do not want to spam any of you, ever. (February is tracking to have more than 15 new posts, for example, which averages to at least one every two days… and I know that could be a lot in your inbox!)
But I also don’t want posts to slip through the cracks if you’re interested in seeing them.
Sooo let me know what you prefer? Are monthly recaps working for you? Would you rather get an email notification for each new post? Some middle ground where I do bi-weekly recaps instead?
All poll votes, comments, and direct messages appreciated!
While I plan to continue using this blog largely as a playground to write write write (and spend less time on Instagram) I also want to factor in what those of you who take the time to read want. Thank you for being here—it means a ton.
(Now go play with your dog, if you’re able 💛)
I think either a weekly or bi-weekly email would be great! I don’t like to miss any, which I feel I do with the monthly, but I understand it’s more work to send out even more recaps. If once a week or every two weeks is too much to add to your plate, I totally get it! But that’s what I think I’d prefer.
Personally, I have the Substack app on my phone and often visit specifically to catch up on new articles from writers I follow, so I haven't found that I'm missing anything. Substack is really clear about indicating which articles you've read (or % complete) and which you haven't in your inbox. I really like the monthly recap emails!
