Deciding that we wanted to live in a van full time was a big move in itself — and then came the logistics of actually taking “we want to pursue van life” and turning it into “here’s our plan to make it happen”.

After watching far too many videos on campervan companies, builds, and layouts, I spent a ton of time thinking about the details for our own home on wheels. There were so many things to consider for Haley, Scout, and I to live comfortably in less than 100 square feet.

Here’s how I went about it.

First up: Selecting the cargo van to build on

The first thing to talk about is the van itself. We decided to go with the Ram Promaster 159” wheelbase.

Parkability is important to us

We want our van to be easy to maneuver, even in a city setting. (And even with Haley driving .)

A lot of people prefer the extended vans (coming in around 23 feet) or even a full-size RV if it will be their only home, and for good reason. The extra feet really give a lot more space!
