Scout the blue heeler lies inside her intermediate sized Ruff Land crash tested car kennel

Scout’s van crate arrived this week!

Our cattle dog typically rides in a car harness, but we wanted a more secure way to keep her safe when we hit the road full time next year. Here are all the details of our decision to purchase an intermediate Ruff Land kennel for our #vandog! (We are not affiliated with the brand.)

Looking for general crate info? You can read about why I support crate training in this article and our personal process helping our dog feel comfortable left alone in this one.

TLDR: Our dog’s van crate overview

  • Single-door Ruff Land Intermediate in whitestone color

  • Smaller than Scout’s current wire crate: 30” vs 36” in length (she is roughly 20” tall at the withers, 22” long, and 40 pounds)

  • Will be secured under our bed in the van and removable if we need to take it out

  • Cheaper and lighter than some other crash kennel options, but still high quality
